Last Saturday, Laurent and I went sailing on the Hudson River on a 1890's style schooner. All week, I was nervous that the weather wouldn't work out (thunderstorms were predicted with a 60% chance of rain!), but when Saturday rolled around, the skies were clear and the weather was perfect.
I got tickets for the Sunset Sail, a two-hour ride that leaves from the Chelsea Piers. The crew takes a wheelbarrow of champagne, beer, and wine on the boat and you're encouraged to bring snacks or dinner on board as well. The Chelsea Market is a great place to grab a meal beforehand (we had milkshakes and macaroni and cheese at Ronneybrook Farm Dairy), or you can pack a little dinner for the ride.
It was so relaxing to get out on the water and see the city from a distance. It made us realize just how many enormous building we couldn't identify and how quiet it can be a few hundred feet away from the hustle and bustle.
